The 2015 Firewood Program is now closed. Application deadline was Friday, August 28, 2015 at 4:00pm. We can not accept late applications.
This program is run in partnership between the United Way of Lamoille County and the State of Vermont.
The State of Vermont donates log length wood to the project each year. The wood comes from trees cut on state land in and around the Lamoille County area.
United Way coordinates the volunteers who make this project possible. On average, 125 volunteers are needed each year. These volunteers work throughout the summer processing the wood. Many local companies give their employees time to volunteer to this project.
We also take care of the logistics, determines income eligibility, coordinates the "work day" (held on September 11 - a National Day of Service) and supplie food and water for the volunteers, gas for the splitters and chain saws, and handle publicity surrounding the event.
