A few years ago, we discovered that statewide, there was a 3 year waiting list for those with disabilities to get ramps built onto their homes.  We contacted the agency in charge of coordinating the statewide program and asked what we could do to get a shorter wait period for Lamoille County residents. 

We were told that if we could provide financial and volunteer resources, we could get Lamoille County people moved to the top of the waiting list.  Working closely with RSVP & the Volunteer Center and the VT Center for Independent Living (VCIL), we put aside a small fund for supplies.  Our small contribution was "matched" by VCIL, who paid the remainder of the costs.  RSVP coordinated the volunteers.

Within 8 months, all 6 people on the Lamoille County waiting list were taken care of! Now there is no more list for those in our community with disabilities.  As people become newly disabled, we are able to take care of their needs immediately.
